After spiritual awakening, you may notice that people treat you differently.
And not just people close to you, but people you’ve only just met or people you have casual contact with, such as at the grocery store or post office. What’s going on?
Are people suddenly really attracted to you, drawn to you, fascinated by you? Or perhaps they are repelled by you or have a strong negative response to you? Or maybe they look at you like you are very strange, not quite human. It can be really unsettling and surprising to notice how differently, and strongly, people are reacting to you.
Why is this happening?
It’s usually one of two things. You are doing something that causes people to react to you or it’s just your energy frequency. Doing or Being. The good news is that in both cases you can do something about it.
Let’s consider the first category. Are you acting weird?
People are wired to pick up on subtle cues that help them automatically, unconsciously put you in the “within range” box or the “out of range” box. It’s a survival skill. If you’re rocking some intense Rasputin stare or if the resting state for your hands is now a mudra, or if you are reaching out energetically (perhaps you are not even aware of doing this) and connecting with their etheric body in a way they feel but can’t mentally process…people are going to react. You might also say things that seem completely normal to you, but instantly mark you as “off.” Have you suddenly started referring to yourself in the third person? Do you no longer use I, me or mine in conversation? “The Body needs sleep,” instead of “I’m tired and going to bed.” You are communicating your experience, but you sound like a disconnected alien.
One night I had the instantaneous awareness of all my incarnations, including so-called future lives. Subsequently, I would sometimes refer to experiences in conversation, “Remember in the late 1800s when we used to…?” I was remembering, but that just sounds weird. Or even referring to the 60s in a way that sounds like memory and not like a knowledge of history…this incarnation (ahem…I) was not alive in the 60s.
If you wish to blend in and not cause such a reaction in other people, then you need to become aware of the subtle and maybe not so subtle cues you are giving.
I changed my speech to refer to historical events clearly as historical events. People think I’m a history buff, not a weirdo. Solved. If I’m suddenly in a super bliss state or some other condition that is going to cause me to do the intense third eye stare, I grab my Kindle or a magazine and put it in front of my face. I look like I’m reading intently. Nobody notices (and happily, people also aren’t inclined to interrupt). I respond to what people say to me with their mouths and not what they are saying telepathically, even though I almost always experience a dual communication from people and I hear their telepathic conversation as clearly as their verbal one. I have developed the ability to perform “small talk,” which was, for a while, absolutely impossible.
Consider what you are doing that is affecting people and make adjustments.
The second category has less to do with what you are doing, but what you are being.
Your state of fluctuating energy. However you want to think of it, your vibration, your frequency, has just been kicked up.
It’s powerful and it can cause people to act very oddly toward you. People can become unnaturally fascinated with you. While this can be benign, it often comes with a sticky, crushy, qi vamp feeling. On the other end of the spectrum, people can be repelled by you for no apparent reason. Or you become strongly archetypal and people project onto you all kinds of personal patterns and unresolved templates, like the parental pattern or the guru pattern or the false guru pattern (at which point they will feel compelled to resist you, denounce you, confront you…fun!).
Another odd thing that your energy can do to people is catalyze them. They can experience all kinds of things from karma clearing (which sounds like some kind of pleasant spa treatment, but usually manifests as an intensification and resolution — read, falling apart — of some life structures or shattering of major illusions), to healing, to temporary siddhis. You are not doing anything, it just happens around you.
So, what can you do about this? After all, you are not intentionally doing anything to begin with, it’s just happening.
These two aspects, of things you are doing that make you stand out and your powerful energy that is zapping everyone around you, are both resolved through the process of integration. You’ve been through major shifts and your entire system is different. You need to approach yourself as a beginner, become acutely aware of what you are doing both physically and energetically, and make adjustments and modifications. You keep tweaking it until you find something that is workable.
It’s tempting and natural to want to hang out in that very high and rarified spiritual ether, but if you wake up in the morning and you are still inhabiting a human body and still have a toe in the physical plane of existence, then the path of integration is to bring your physicality, your mundane daily life into enlightened awareness. It’s not something to be shunned, neglected or escaped. It is to be integrated.
Maybe some day you’ll wake up and you won’t be in a physical body on this plane, you’ll be sitting on a cloud surrounded by half naked Dakinis. Great!
But for now, you are here. Learn to love it here, love your body and its needs and quirks. Learn to merge your intense bliss and indescribably expanded awareness with your every day life. It’s tempting to separate your spiritual life — when you are flying high and receiving downloads and staring into the Absolute — from your mundane life. Integration is learning to merge the two so that doing your taxes or going to a Christmas party is just as spiritual as anything else.
The effect is that you become grounded, rounded and whole…and that makes your energy less erratic, less like lightning bolts flying all about.
Your energy is more constant, you are able to send it out or reign it in rather than walking around with it going in all directions. Being here, deeply and fully, makes it easier to bring awareness to how you affect people by your behavior. It becomes less and less of a big deal. You stop thinking of yourself as alien, as not belonging here. You take your place in this world, in your own beautiful and unique way.
Some people will not want to blend in or cloak themselves. Their path is different, but they will also be completely unconcerned with how people react to them or what the outcome of that might be. That’s fine, too. But I doubt many of those people will find themselves reading this article.
I travel a lot and for me, it’s just like going to a new culture that is very different from the one I’m used to. People point and stare at you, especially if they’ve never seen a person like you before. I’ve been to little villages in the middle of nowhere where no one has ever seen a person of my ethnicity before.
You learn what makes people offended, what makes them uncomfortable and what makes them feel at ease. Do they never point? Okay, learn not to. Do they never use certain words? Never touch people with their left hands? Never point their foot inadvertently at someone (like when you are sitting and cross your legs)? Okay! I could just be one of those people who goes into a foreign country and acts “just like myself”, insisting that their customs are stupid or irrelevant to me, but that would set me apart from people and that’s not what I want. So I try to blend in.
When you think of it that way, you can see that it’s really no big deal. It’s not just some special problem that “spiritually evolved” people have.
There are places in the world where you would be like an alien from another planet. Everything about you, from the way you look to your every gesture and daily habits to how you see the world would be seen as profoundly strange. It’s just startling to wake up one day in the same place you’ve always been and find that this is, to some degree, the case. That’s disorienting. But integration is re-orienting.
You belong here, and you are welcome. There is no where else you need to get to, and if at any time you truly don’t belong here, you will naturally and effortlessly leave. So get comfy, keep your sense of humor, be curious and enjoy yourself. It’s more than likely that once you get settled, get integrated and stable, you will experience the next wave of expansion and awakening. Yes, it keeps going!
And you’ll have to let that settle, stabilize, integrate — all over again.
